National Celebration of Food

Today, all across the country events are being held in support of a sustainable food system.

Food Day is a national celebration and a movement for healthy, sustainable food.  You can find all kinds of resources at the Food Day website. You will also see a page of events and activities to educate and celebrate the food system.

When you are celebrating Food Day, 2012, I hope you keep in mind the people who grow the food you eat.  From the ground up, producers of food struggle to put delicious food on our tables.  Many farmers are barely making a living and their workers may be even worse off.  Farmworkers in California frequently live in poverty with low food security and poor health. How can it be that those who harvest our food can't find enough to eat?

CIRS and Food Day

CIRS has donated DVDs to the Food Day organizers for the past two years.  Our DVD contribution is "Fair Food: Field to Table."  If you request a copy, the organizers will send you one, free of charge.  If you want to view the video online for Food Day you can by clicking on the link in the left sidebar.
